In 2000, the musical ran on Broadway, in its final form, at the Palace Theatre for 1,852 performances under the all new title, Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA. Roughly a year later it was revamped and opened in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace. Originally titled Elaborate Lives: The Legend of AIDA, the show had its world premiere at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia in November 1998. Aida premiered on Broadway on March 23, 2000, running for 1,852. From the pop-rock music to the performances of the characters, this 1998 musical bursts with energy from start to finish. Aida (also known as Elton John and Tim Rices Aida) is a musical with music by Elton. Winner of four 2000 Tony® Awards, Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA is a contemporary musical based on the original libretto which once belonged solely to Verdi’s opera. Village Theatre’s production of Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA. Little did they know, however, that Verdi’s AIDA would survive decades of revivals and eventually reinterpretation as we have seen in Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA. The opera was such a success that the composers who followed in its footsteps worked to create productions of even grander proportion in a valiant effort to out-do those who came before. It also incorporates several ballets, in addition to its well-known Grand March. Verdi’s AIDA lends itself to this era of opera as it certainly deals with a dramatic culture clash in a historical, Egyptian setting. This 19th century genre of opera was characterized in its initial productions by large-scale casts and orchestras, lush and spectacular designs and stage-effects, with plots usually based around dramatic historic events taking place within four to five acts. Photo © 2007 Ken Howard, courtesy San Diego OperaĪrguably one of the most popular operas to date, Verdi’s AIDA was created in the famous era of Grand Opera in Europe, which took place between the 1820s to roughly the early 1870s. Seattle Opera presents Michael Yeargan and Peter J. Despite the obvious differences in musical styles and visual displays, these two productions share a story that is both powerful and compelling. This tale of forbidden love has been a standard piece of operatic repertoire since its creation and has since been transformed into a pop-rock musical spectacle by present-day theatre giants Elton John and Tim Rice. With a grand opening at the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, Egypt in 1871, composer Guiseppe Verdi’s highly-praised opera AIDA had a future that would span lifetimes. Who does play a role in the current plot of WoW, however, is Wrathion, son of Deathwing and one of the last known members of the Black Dragonflight, the group of dragons that perfectly fit the expansion teaser art. At BlizzCon, we will hear about details for Patch 8.3 and a possible expansion announcement, including Sylvanas’ final master plan involving N’Zoth, the Horde and the Alliance. In current World of Warcraft, Deathwing doesn’t play a starring role. Another reprint as well as story focus on Deathwing in Hearthstone would turn interest towards both HotS and Hearthstone.īut what about Blizzard’s flagship title, World of Warcraft? Wrathion: The Missing Link The cross-franchise nature of HotS makes it hard to predict a correlation between hero releases and future content in other games however, recent years and BlizzCons showed that Team 1 always tried to develop towards storylines and plots in other Blizzard games. Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard’s MOBA game, recently announced Deathwing as a new playable hero and will present an in-depth feature at BlizzCon next week. And not only that: Other Blizzard franchises just recently picked up on one of the most iconic character storylines of Warcraft. The general art behind the last expansion teaser and the looks of the Black Dragonflight would fit together very well, and current Hearthstone hints only support the claim of a possible return of Deathwing. Deathwing decided to ally with Al’Akir and the Neferset tol’vir to take control of Uldum and its sacred titan machineries including the Forge of Origination, a device that could turn Azeroth as a whole into ashes. In fact, the Shattering caused the Skywall – one of the four elemental planes – to leak, and as a result, Al’Akir and his elemental air minions went wild in Uldum. Looking back at the storyline of WoW’s Cataclysm expansion, the zone of Uldum seemed to be one of Deathwing’s top priorities after he had been unleashed on Azeroth once again. With The Final Plague?!, he summons the four Old Gods cards, showcasing the true power of Rafaam who seemingly agreed to pact with the darkest villains available in the Warcraft universe.īoth Rafaam’s unknown potential and the history of Uldum point towards one of the two current fan theories: Deathwing. In the last wing of the campaign, players encounter Tekahn, leader of the Neferset tol’vir and Rafaam’s right hand in Uldum. In Tombs of Terror, the single player campaign of Hearthstone’s latest expansion Saviors of Uldum, adventurers have to fight different plagues and other creatures corrupted by Rafaam and his lieutenants. Following the Story: Dalaran, Uldum, … Deathwing?Īfter looking at a very vague expansion teaser image, what would make more sense than examining the actual storyline of the current Standard year to predict what comes next?Īs already said, the conflict between the League of E.V.I.L and the League of Explorers will find its end, one way or the other. But similar to the dragon theory, orcs haven’t played a major in the recent happenings of the Hearthstone storyline either. The art behind the expansion teaser image reminded many of the Warlords of Draenor expansion of World of Warcraft that featured the rise and fall of the Iron Horde. However, not many dragons joined the fight only Kalecgos and Nozari have been printed, two comparatively minor characters of Warcraft lore.Īnother very popular theory hints at the Iron Horde, a radicalized group of orcs lead Grommash and Garrosh Hellscream. What started as a vague trip involving the Kirin Tor turned into the year-long rivalry between the League of E.V.I.L. Looking at the third teaser we still feel a very dragon-heavy vibe, and that could’ve meant pretty much anything, not knowing anything about today’s Hearthstone plot. Thanks to the year-long storyline of the current Standard year, Blizzard will be able to once again pick up on cross-franchise storytelling as well as adding even more depth to Hearthstone’s lore.īut what are the possible settings for 2019’s final Hearthstone expansion? Which information should the community pay their attention to, especially when looking at other Blizzard franchises? Initial Speculations: Iron Horde and Dragonsįirst of all, let’s take a step back and look at what we know so far, which is, quite frankly, almost nothing: At the start of 2019, Team 5 posted the usual expansion teaser triptychon, showing three images, one for each 2019 expansion.īack in March we already tried to decipher the Year of the Dragons hints using only these teaser images. and the League of Explorers soon will culminate. And that includes the upcoming expansion as well of course!Īs the Year of the Dragon comes to a close, the ongoing conflict between the League of E.V.I.L. The month is October, BlizzCon is right around the corner, and we have lots and lots to talk about the game called Hearthstone at the moment. But most of the time, messages that show up late can wait to be addressed until regular work hours. If I am awake, I feel tempted to reply, often trying to impress the sender by showing that I was up and considered their email important. I find it challenging to hold off on responding when I receive an email at midnight. Be like professors, who let everyone know their open office hours-unless you are a CEO (or President Lincoln) and your immediate response is critical to others’ well-being. Only respond to emails and other messages at dedicated times. Then give yourself a five-minute break, but don’t get sucked into responding to multiple emails if you are trying to concentrate. Embrace having no interruptions for 20 minutes at a time. Hide your phone, close your door, have your beverage already in hand, and work fluidly. This is effective if you are easily distracted at work, especially while working from home. I recommend working in short bursts of 20-minute intervals to help you achieve hyperfocus. That way, I can control when I want to be interrupted. I only have my “reminders” notifications active. It’s tough to know how Lincoln would have handled our modern distractions. People who wanted to speak with him frequently interrupted him at the White House. Distractions have been robbing men of their focus for generations. Since distractions tempt us to habitually multitask, I would like to share how to avoid distractions.
